Discovering God’s call for your life begins with what He has already asked us to do: love God and love others. This begins in community by serving others. In the process, you will discover your gifts and develop a skill set. And then, when you find where your skills meet a need you are passionate about, you will have found a purpose, a calling from God.

First of all, be assured that you really can hear God’s voice. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them” (John 10:27). God speaks in many different ways, some of which are: through the Bible, in dramatic encounters, or through His “still, small voice. One of the most helpful ways to grow is to be mentored in a community that can help you learn when you listen to God instead of your own thoughts.

God made you with unique passions, abilities and gifts. Don’t throw them away to “be a missionary”. God wants to use your gifts to change the world. He needs missionaries who are gifted in media, music, fitness and administration, in addition to preaching and pastoral work. God gave you your passions for a reason. If you allow Jesus to use them, you will begin one of the most exciting journeys of your life.

Your past does not disqualify you from serving God. It gives you a launching pad to experience God’s breakthrough. But it’s hard to achieve freedom on your own. We all need a community that loves us enough to ask the hard questions and help us continue to overcome our past. From there, you can help others overcome it too.

We go to the nations because Jesus asked us to. Every person on earth is loved by God and deserves to know God’s love. Jesus commissioned his followers to “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). We believe that reaching the nations is not an optional extra to the Christian life, but something we were born to do.

There are many difficult questions. Many of them have clear biblical answers, while others need further thoughtful discussion to discover. But before you look for answers, you should make sure you are surrounded by people who love and live God’s word. If you connect to a multigenerational community with a history of studying and following the Bible, the answers will come.
